Crazy Things We Have Learned

I am sure if I had time I could sit down a make a huge, long list about the crazy things I have seen and learned here in Thailand, but right now I am just going to stick to some things I have leanred about buddhist belief.

First of all, I am beginning to see how widely accepted it is to be homosexual here. Every single day we see transexuals or men dressing and acting like women. I can't even give you an estimate of how many we have seen because they are everywhere. But we learned that it is accepted here because buddhists believe in reincarnation, so the homosexuals may be men or women in this life, but they were probably the opposite in another life. They say that you may be a man, but you are truly a woman in your heart. I need prayer that I can get through my judgements of these people and just see them the way God created them, in His likeness.

The second thing I learned is that we may see running an orphanage as a GREAT thing, but many Thai people believe that it is wrong. This ministry that we are a part of here has had much criticism for taking in these orphaned children. Again, since buddhists believe in reincarnation and karma, they think that the children were left orphans because they were bad people in a past life or something. They would tell the ministry that they were messing up the children's lives because they wouldn't let "karma" unfold the way it needed to. I am so thankful that the true God of this universe is a merciful and loving God who will not abandon us or forsake us. Thank You Jesus for dying for our sins, all of us all over the world!

We Are Back Online

So it seems that nowadays that we quite on our blogs quite sporadically. Honestly, it's not that I haven't wanted to write on the blog or that I didn't have anything to write about, actually, it's probably the opposite of that. I have so much to write about that I just don't know where to start and that is quite frustrating. How about I just start back again right here where we are at...

Gabe is really really loving school here. He's like excited all the time it seems. His schedule goes like this 5 days a week: 6:30 leave for school, 7:00 breakfast, 8:00 chapel, 9:00 class, 12:00 lunch, 1:00 mentor groups and practical ministry, 5:00 most nights he gets to come home at this time.

Yeah, it sounds pretty crazy, but I get to be up at the school with him quite a bit because I am teaching English to the students. Five days a week Gabe and the other students (about 15 of them) have a chapel service in the morning which the students do everything for themselves. They take turns preaching and teaching and leading worship all on their own. That's a good teaching tool I think for the ministry.

Also, five days a week Gabe goes to do practical ministry. This is all about hands-on learning. Some nights he will go out to the streets and tell people about Jesus and pass out tracks and sometimes he works with the media department to make videos and such about what is going on here.

All in all, we truly believe this is an incredible opportunity for us. We are growing tremendously in faith and love. We know these people need us, but we also know that we cannot do this without God in every area.

Thanks for your continued prayers and support. We are beginning to get revelations of how important prayer truly is. With that revelation comes a desire to pray...Hallelujah!

Hey From Thailand

Okay, so sorry we haven't gotten a chance to write in the last few weeks. We are trying to get this whole internet thing worked out. We found this sweet little internet place right down the road from our house and it only cost 50 cents an hour, but it's just hard to get here sometimes with a two year old. We will have internet at our house soon though, I believe!

So to all our precious friends and family back home, we are so sorry about the craziness of this hurricane season. We only get one real English channel on our tv here and that is Fox news, so we have been keeping up with the weather there and praying for you guys. It's like I want to be there to make sure you are all okay and give you love and encouragement. We are believing God with you that good will come out of this bad weather season. One of my favorite quotes of all times is The darkest night is just before the dawn, and that is exactly what I am believing over Louisiana right now. You sweet people of God are a bright light there right now. We Love You, We Love You, We Love You, We Do!!!!! I mean that, more than I can actually explain.

Everything is going good on our end. We really like it here in Thailand. We have gotten settled into a nice house, made some new friends, and have been really enjoying the new ministry we are becoming a part of. Our biggest challenge here so far is to keep our faith high. I was reading in Psalm 78 today about how God was so angry at the Israelites because they had seen Him do so many amazing miracles, but they still said that there were things that God couldn't possibly do. Gabe and I just need a stillness in our spirits that we know, that we know, that we know that God has sent us here and will meet all our needs in abundance. We have some faith, but we are believing God to increase our faith to incredible levels.

We are so excited about the ministry possibilities for our lives in this place. We see a need everywhere we look. I will go into more detail later, but I can just say now that these people REALLY need Jesus and they have no other way to know Him other than through us.

Thank you our loved ones for your continued prayers and support. We just can't express how much it means to us. I am not being cliche, just telling the truth from my heart. WE LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

Love always, Dawn

2 Days Away

Hey! We just wanted to let everyone know that we will be away from our computers for the next two days. We leave this morning to go to an island called Langkawi so Gabe's dad can minister there tomorrow night. We heard that we won't have internet on the island, so that's why we are not bringing our computers. We will be back by Saturday night (our time), so Saturday morning your time to talk to everyone on Skype.

We love you guys and we are missing you like crazy. I had another pretty rough night of missing everyone last night. Pray for me that I feel at home when we get to Thailand and that we really find our place in the ministry there.

WE LOVE YOU DEARLY!

Love, Dawn

The Weirdness of This Place :)

This is a fruit that we have been eating here. It looks so strange on the outside, but the inside fruit taste great. It reminds me on a big grape without the skin on it, but it's a little bit sweeter than a grape. To open it you just stick your thumb into the skin of if and break it open. Interesting!

Bday & Aniiversary

Happy Birthday & Happy Anniversary My Sweet Gabriel

Sailor & Daddy
Gabe & Dad
Gabe & his beautiful wife :), me

I just wanted to take this time to write a sweet message about my wonderful husband. Yesterday was his 23rd birthday and tomorrow will be our 3rd anniversary. Wow, he is so special to me. I was thinking about the last three years we have had being married to each other and they surely have been some of the craziest 3 years of both of our lives. Anyone who knows us can pretty much attest to that. But anyways, Gabe has been an incredible rock to me. He's a gift from God that I still can't understand how or why I got. But thank You precious JESUS!  I have been super proud of Gabe lately. I have been reading what he has written on the blogs, and I just can't believe how much he really does love God. I always have told him that he is God's choice picked prince, and I believe that with all my heart. The things that the Lord is going to do through him are going to be astounding. And I am so happy just to be on his team. Thank You Lord for giving me this gift of a wonderful husband!

Random Pictures

I was just looking through my iphoto library and found some sweet pictures that I wanted to post. I am about to clean out our iphoto library and put all our pictures on our external hard drive, so I figured I should show everyone these while I have the chance. The next set of pictures I post will be much newer. But these are some of my favorites from the last few months.

Sailor with Jayci. She loves to hold the baby, but she squeezes her way too tightly. Aren't they both so precious!
Jayci Marie Harvell & Sailor
(Oh, and they match perfect!)
I just love the outfit Sailor has on in this picture, that's why I had to post it.
PRICELESS! Sailor Grace & Zion Luke. I am so glad I got a perfect picture like this of them before we left the country. If they are good friends when they get older, this picture will even be better!
Sailor's Mimi bought her some makeup for her 2nd birthday. Thanks Mimi, because Mommy's the one who has to clean up the mess.
Sailor with Coco (Cody Vandermeulen). She Loves Him! Since we have been here, almost everyday she has asked about him, "Where's Coco?", or "I want Coco." We miss you Jamie and Cody. You guys are incredible friends to us!
Sailor has also asked for Annabell a few times since we have been here. It's always something that reminds Sailor of her, but we can't figure out what it is.
Ethan & Annabell Sampey with Sailor

I hope you enjoy the pics! More to come tomorrow. Later Alligators

Nights Here

I just wanted to write and apologize for not being on Skype during my night times = your mornings. We honestly tried to stay awake to talk to you guys, but our body clocks haven't all the way adjusted yet. We have usually been out doing something from around 5pm-8pm our time and we just crash whenever we get back home. We are so sorry that some of you haven't been able to catch us online, but I promise we will sign in at every chance we get. And we should be eating dinner at home much more this week, so you will see us online. Okay, we love you guys so much. And I can't wait to talk to you soon.

Our Trip Update

Okay, so I thought I would write to let everyone know how our loooooonnnnng trip to Asia went and let you know how things are now that we are here.

First, leaving the airport in New Orleans was exciting but also heart wrenching. Saying goodbye that last time to the greatest friends we have ever known was painful, but I can't say much more than that because I don't want my emotions to get out on control when I've only been here a day.

Anyways, our first flight, the one from New Orleans to Los Angeles was pretty good. It was only three hours and Sailor slept most of it. I have to say that United Airlines made me very happy in two ways. First because they played a recent episode of my absolute favorite tv show, The Office, and second because they had really delicious snack packs. My snack pack had a glass jar of hummos with pita chips, lemon pepper tuna with crackers and a toblerone (sp?) chocolate bar (yum!) & Gabe's had prime rib beef jerky and some other goodies. The snack packs were like $5 though, our other planes served us complimentary.

Our second flight from Los Angeles to Taipei, Taiwan was 13 hours long. We were on a huge plane, one with a second story and stuff. I have to be honest and say that being stuck in the close confines of the plane with a two-year-old for 13 hours made me want to scream. Stepping off that plane was a happy moment for me, even though I knew I had to get back on the same plane an hour later for another 4 hour flight.

So that was our third flight, from Taiwan to Kuala Lumpur. This flight wasn't much fun either, but it was 100 times better than the 13 hour one, and wasn't half as cramped as the 13 hour one, Hallelujah!

These flights were on Malaysian Airlines. We had all Asian flight attendants who helped me by taking Sailor some of the time. They would take her for walks around the plane and give her toys and stuff. The food was pretty good as well. They fed us like three meals in those 17 hours and we had drinks and other snacks brought two us around the clock.

We were only in Kuala Lumpur for about an hour before we embarked on our final flight. After being on three planes for 20 hours, the last flight was a relief being only 45 minutes long, woooohooooo. I loved it!

So then we reached Penang, Malaysia, where Mom & Dad were waiting for us right outside the doors of the airport. But I have to tell you about the highlight of the trip for me. It was when we were in Los Angeles waiting to get on the plane for our long flight at about 1:30 am and I sat next to this really sweet girl from Taiwan. Her name was Jewel. After we talked for a little while, she very plainly told me that she was a Christian, baptized 2 years ago. She was going back to Taiwan for the first time in years and she was going to have to tell her family and friends that she is no longer a buddhist, but a Christian now. Of course I told her about what we are going to be doing here in Asia, and it really excited her. She said it was such an encouragement to talk to me before she would have to face her loved ones in Taiwan. She got all of my information and has already added me to her Skype contacts. God is soooo good! It's just another one of those little treasures in life that I accept as a gift from God. Thank You Lord.

I know this is kind of long, but thanks for reading if you did. More to come later...

WE'RE DEBT FREEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

FREEEEDOOOM!

This is the bumper sticker we got for our car, but we don't
have a car to put it on because we are moving to Thailand.
Maybe we will just stick it on our luggage!

Oh my goodness, Oh my goodness.....I am so ecstatic to announce that we are completely DEBT FREE! As of yesterday, July 17, 2008 we have no more yucky debt hanging over our lives. We paid the last $1,800 of our student loans off.  So we paid off almost $16,000 in about one year. My heart feels like it is jumping for joy inside my chest!

And, today another dream of mine came true...I had the opportunity to talk to Dave Ramseylive on air on his radio show that millions of people in this country listen to. He is a Christian financial counselor that has his own talk radio show & a prime time slot on FOX Business News every night. Gabe & I have been listening to him for almost two years now. Anyways, I got to talk to him and I would love to share it with all of you. As soon as I can get the link, I will post it on here (and even maybe email it to you guys...hehehe!).

Gabe and I are CHANGING OUR FAMILY TREE...Hallelujah!!!

This is Dave Ramsey at the FOX news office for his show. Go Dave Ramsey!
What an incredible ministry.

Happy Daddy's Day!

How could I let Father's Day pass by without writing some shout outs?

To my Daddy, I just want you to know that I am so proud of you. That might sound silly, but it's just incredible to me how hard you work for your family. There are so many fathers out there that don't work or don't care to support their families, but I can say the complete opposite about you. You have always been a huge example of staying focused and diligent and persevering. I thank you for that, and I want you to know that I truly believe in you. You are a great man, and I believe that this next part of your life will be the part that God really brings you into His peace and rest and, Praise God, JOY! I am praying for that new job, it's just what the doctor ordered. I love you Daddy! Mwuah, xoxoxo. Caught mine? I caught yours :)

To Dad, I am so excited that we are following you and mom. I want a marriage like you guys. I want us to be a parents like you guys. And I am so thankful to have a husband  that wants to be just like you & Jesus. Thank you so much for taking me in like I am your real daughter and nothing short of it. You guys have been amazing to me and there is really no way I will be able to thank you enough. I love you Dad more than I can possibly explain here! Okay, now let's go see lives changed in Southeast Asia, in Jesus name, Amen!

And To My Husband, I watched as Sailor fell asleep on your chest tonight. I see the way she is always most excited whenever You come home at night. And I wonder, how in the world did I get you? I guess God only knows. He was sure being kind to me when he brought me you. You are my #1 favorite person in this entire world. I don't even understand sometimes how you can get up every morning so early, work such long hours (with no air-conditioning), and then come home and do everything that needs to be done without making ANY complaints. I admire you & I will do everything I can to make that known to our children. I Love You! I am your Number One Fan. What can I ever do to show you how much you mean to me. If only there were a way for you to really feel exactly what I feel for you in the deepest places of my heart. You mean the world to me. I want to be right next to you all through this life and then all through eternity. You are God's Choice Picked Prince! Thank you for everything. I love you.

Good Story...

I had something really sweet happen this afternoon and it was just a special reminder of how much God really delights in us. He really knows us and he takes note of even the smallest desires of our hearts. Okay, and so the story goes...

Katie Hope called me today and asked if she could come by to bring me something (which she always has surprises for me and Sailor, and it's always something very thoughtful). Well, she comes in with this bag that me and Sailor open tog
ether, and it's the most perfect wallet in the world (for me at least!). It is a red white and blue sailor wallet from Urban Outfitters, and we all know I love sailor stuff because I even named my daughter that. Anyways, what is so special about this wallet is Gabe and I went to Urban Outfitters in Baton Rouge last week and I saw that exact wallet and I wanted it soooooo bad, but I couldn't get it. It was the only thing in the store I wanted and I could feel my heart flop in my chest when I saw it. No one knew anything about that wallet but Gabe or would even know that I had even been to that store.

(The blue wallet on the right side is the one she gave me. It's by loop,
www.loopnyc.com, amd it's called Oooh Sailor!)
Once I told Katie the story about the wallet, she reminded me that I had given her a bathing suit earlier this week. She said that she had seen the exact bathing suit top in the store a few weeks earlier and had really wanted it, but couldn't get it because the store had no fitting room to try it on. But sure enough, I gave her that bathing suit and had no idea she had wanted it.

This may just be a simple little story to you who read this, but to me it's a precious reminder of our incredible Heavenly Father. He is the greatest Daddy ever! Lately I have been really receiving this word into my heart. The other day I was holding my sweet little girl, and all I could think about was how God even feels stronger for me than I could ever feel for my little one. That's a huge revelation because I love my daughter so much and can't even imagine a greater love. But there surely is one, a love from our Heavenly Father!

Debt Free Update

I am a little bit sad to say this, but we did not reach our goal to have our debt completely paid off by May 31st. We would have had it almost done with, but we used the money instead to buy our plane tickets for Thailand. It was a tough decision at first, but we knew if we waited any longer to buy those tickets, they would have went up in price a lot.

No worries though, we aren't leaving for another two months, so that is plenty of time to stay focused and get that debt knocked out!!!! This is definitely not something we are taking lightly. We are gazelle intense about this.

If only someone would have told us not to take out student loans. We didn't even need them for school, they were just used for whatever we wanted at the time. Bottom line - they were a huge mistake that have done no good for us except to teach us a lesson.

Okay, back to here and now, we will have our debt paid off by the end of July - in Jesus mighty name, Amen. Jesus bought our freedom from debt and poverty on the cross and there is nothing the enemy can do to stop us from receiving the Lord's blessing. No ifs, ands, or buts about it, we will be DEBT FREE this summer!

Left to pay ........... $3505.85

Please believe with us on this!
